Athletic Apparel and Footwear: An extensive selection of performance apparel, activewear, and athletic footwear for men, women, and children is available, featuring major brands and styles suitable for different sports and fitness routines.
Outdoor and Recreation Gear: Sections are dedicated to outdoor pursuits, offering items for camping, hiking, fishing, and watersports, though specific item availability (like specialized swim masks) may vary.
Fitness Equipment: Various fitness machines, free weights, and accessories for home gyms and personal fitness routines are typically stocked.
Customer Service: Staff are available to assist with finding products and provide general guidance. While the level of specific product knowledge may vary, general assistance is part of the shopping experience.
Return Policy (with noted limitations): The store has a return policy for products. However, customers should be aware that used items, especially those used outdoors, may not be eligible for return, as highlighted by customer feedback. It is advisable to review the specific return policy details prior to purchase.
Seasonal and Clearance Items: The inventory often includes seasonal products related to current sports seasons or outdoor activities, as well as clearance sections for discounted items.
While the store aims to provide a comprehensive selection, specific niche items might have limited options, and customers are encouraged to check availability for highly specialized gear. The core service remains providing a vast general inventory for most common sporting and outdoor needs.
DICK'S Sporting Goods in Madison comes with several features and highlights that define the shopping experience, as well as some aspects that customers should be aware of.
Extensive Inventory for General Sports: One of the primary highlights is the sheer volume of products available for popular sports and fitness activities. This makes it a convenient one-stop shop for outfitting families involved in various recreational pursuits.
Brand Variety: The store typically stocks a wide range of well-known and reputable sports brands for apparel, footwear, and equipment, offering customers a good selection of quality products.
Mall Location Convenience: Being situated within West Towne Mall provides a significant advantage, allowing for easy access, ample parking, and the ability to combine a trip to DICK'S with other shopping needs.
Potential for Limited Niche Selection: While general inventory is extensive, some customers have noted that for very specific or niche items (e.g., certain types of swim masks), the selection might be limited, with only a few options available. This suggests that for highly specialized gear, it might be beneficial to call ahead or check online.
Product Testing Limitations: As highlighted in a customer review, some items, particularly those requiring a precise fit like swim masks, cannot be tested in-store. This can pose a challenge for customers needing to ensure proper fit before purchase, potentially leading to uncertainty.
Strict Return Policy for Used Items: A critical point for customers is the store's strict return policy regarding used items. As per customer feedback, items used outside the house are generally not eligible for return. This policy, while perhaps standard for some retailers, has caused significant frustration for loyal customers, leading to negative experiences and a stated intention to shop elsewhere. This is a crucial consideration for buyers, especially for higher-priced items that might require field testing.
Navigation and Section Labeling: Some customers have expressed difficulty in navigating the store due to a lack of clear section labeling beyond broad categories like "outdoor" and "fitness." This could make finding specific items more time-consuming for less frequent shoppers.
These features offer a balanced view of what customers can expect at DICK'S Sporting Goods in Madison, providing insight into its strengths as well as areas where customer experience might vary.

DICK'S Sporting Goods Reviews
I only stop by Dick's for specific items, so not a regular shopper. I had a hard time finding the area I was looking for as there aren't really labeled sections aside from outdoor and fitness. They had limited selection on some items if it isn't clothing, or sport items. Looked for swim mask (not goggles) and there were only 3 options, and you can't test them, which is important if you are to make sure it fits.
Jun 11, 2025 · Lory FolkertI went to the store yesterday to return a hiking shoe that I used once and hurt my foot. I was told by the store manager that if the shoe was used outside the house, it can't be returned. This is a ridiculous policy. Most people will just say they did not use it out of the house. When I insisted with the manager, she said she would not be able to return the shoe to the manufacturer. Well, accepting the return should have been done to value me as a customer, NOT to recover the money they paid on the shoe! I spend more than a $1000 a year at this store. In fact, the shoe was part of a $800 SINGLE purchase. I will no longer buy anything at Dick's. So, to save the $50 (or whatever they paid on the shoe) they would lose if they had accepted the return, they will lose the THOUSANDS of dollars they would make over my future purchases, for years to come. What an awful business!!!
May 15, 2025 · T APCashier named Jerome had a very bad attitude when I came in on Saturday to buy 2 items. One needed to be unlocked by the mall entrance, so I grabbed the other item and went to the cashier to get him to either call someone to unlock it or unlock it himself since he was only maybe 10 feet away from it. So when I go up and say I got this and I just needed that item unlocked and he acknowledges that I’m gonna need an item unlocked(I even pointed at the item and he nodded his head and said yes) he scans my item and is fumbling for the keys and than goes are you gonna pay for that and I respond I need the other item and he turns the other way and says “You should have asked first” in a snotty attitude. Then he gets his keys and fumbles trying to unlock my item and than can’t unlock it so he walks back to the cash register and just tells me that I’m gonna have to wait because he “has to worry about this” even though there was maybe three people in line and we had already been waiting. I never once had an attitude or issue waiting for someone to unlock it and would have been fine waiting if he didn’t want the line to get long, but he gave me attitude and pretended it was my fault instead of just calling for back up/help in the first place and politely telling me to wait, which again I was expecting and would have had no issue with.
Jun 07, 2025 · DaltonI worked with a Megan at the madison west side store- she was phonomenal! Super helpful to me while i was a bit rude- multitasking with other coworkers who needed her help and still managed to find me what i needed !! Top notch customer service, and managerial skills - i would hire her at my small business anyday!
Mar 03, 2025 · Marty HendersonTrying to find a staff associate for help with shoes is pointless. A lot of green shirts walking around but nowhere to be found at the same time. The guy acted as if I bothered him to get New Balance in my size from the stock room. The condition of the shoes was horrible. I tried 3 different sneakers. Every shoe looks old and worn. The suede wasn't clean. The wrap papers inside the box were torn. Why would anybody pay for new sneakers that look like that? The Stanley collection is also mediocre. This location is an example of why storefronts are closing.I recommend ordering directly from the manufacturer online.
