KMC Trampoline & Tumbling Team Reviews
I can't recommend KMC's Trampoline team enough. The coaches are knowledgeable, experienced, and clearly have the best interests of the athletes in mind. The teammates are encouraging and supportive. Training is challenging and focused without compromising the pure enjoyment of the sport, so athletes will gain strength, coordination, and discipline while still having a great time. The trampoline team is a great option for kids who started gymnastics too late to be considered for a "regular" (artistic) gymnastics team. Most of our kids started between ages 10 and 13, and we've had people find success joining as late as 16-17. I started just before I turned twelve and have been doing this for nearly six years now. This is my second year as a level 10 and third year year as a coach for levels 3-7. For anyone age 6 or younger I would recommend KMC's trampoline classes rather than the team. This will introduce them the the Olympic-style trampolines and fundamental skills and techniques but is less expensive, less intense, and less of a commitment. Older kids are also welcome in the classes.Classes and team practices are both co-ed. Classes are 1 hour in duration and once per week, but you may sign up for as many days of the week as you would like. Practices vary for our competitive team. From day one through level 7, athletes typically train 2 hour sessions twice per week. Once they approach level eight, they will move to the "late practice," which directly follows the "early practice" and hosts the team's more advanced athletes. This practice is 2.75 hours in length. Level 8s may train 2-3 times per week, depending on their availability and need. Level 9 athletes are expected to attend three trainings per week; level 10 athletes four.Competitions are fun, exciting, and a great opportunity to bond with teammates and meet athletes from other gyms. Athletes will preform routines on both trampoline and double mini and receive scores based on how well the routines are done. While practices are co-ed, boys and girls will not compete against one another in a meet. The team focuses mainly on personal growth and improvement, but naturally placing well and receiving high scores are also highly praised. There are typically 5-6 "regular" competitions followed by states and regionals. States and regionals provide the opportunity for athletes of level 5 or higher to qualify for nationals. This is based on numerical score, not placement in comparison to other athletes. The trampoline team is a great place to grow as an athlete and learn the value of hard work and perseverance. It provides a safe and friendly environment for kids to learn and advance their skills and put excess energy towards something productive. Joining the trampoline team is probably the best decision I ever made.I say these things not as a coach who wants to advertise, but as someone who has spent some of the best moments of her life in this gym, experiencing epic highs and lows with her teammates. Our arms are always open to new members, so don't be shy! You can come in and practice with us for a night without making any sort of commitment or payment-- decide after your first practice whether it is something that you would like to commit to!
